Orchestra
Trinidadian Conductor and pianist Andrew Samlal is recognised for his work in both operatic and symphonic repertoire. Equally at home in the pit, on the podium, and at the keyboard, he is known for his energetic leadership and collaborative artistry.
Samlal currently serves as Music Director of the Greenbelt Community Orchestra and recent engagements include Associate Conductor, Pianist, and Coach - Des Moines Metro Opera, Rehearsal Pianist - Opera Memphis, Cover Conductor - Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Guest Conductor - Canton Symphony Orchestra, Music Director - Delaware Valley Opera Company production of Le nozze di Figaro, Apprentice Conductor and Pianist - Philadelphia Ballet and Guest Faculty Conductor - Temple University.
He is currently completing doctoral studies in orchestral conducting at the University of Maryland, where he studies with David Neely. At Maryland, he has served as Music Director of the University Orchestra and Assistant Conductor with the Maryland Opera Studio. His artistic collaborators have included Markand Thakar, Beatrice Affron, Lambert Orkis, Sara Davis Buechner, and Joyce Lindorff.
